Jai Jhoole Lal

The tool that RomanizedSindhi.org has provided is indeed very valuable. For years we had been fighting this battle how to teach Sindhi language to our new generation in USA. Teaching the Arabic or Devnagri script was the main hurdle. Neither children had motivation nor the parents could impose additional burden on their kids who already carry a very heavy work load and face intense competition at their schools.

Now with the use of Standardized Romanized Sindhi Script the task has been greatly simplified. It did not take too much to attract or persuade. In fact the response from the Bay Area Sindhi Community to our announcement was quite surprising. Not only the kids but some adults and youth also signed up for the Sindhi class.

The classes have been in progress for over a month now.

The whole process of instructions, learning and communication has become simpler. The web site of RomanizedSindhi.org alphabets and Lessons has made it easy to assign home work and review of the next lesson prior to the class. Our main effort in the class is now to teach the students difficult Sindhi pronunciations, words and verbs leading to speaking simple conversational Sindhi.

Not only our students but also the teaching staff are enjoying the new process of learning Sindhi language. Several supplements have been developed to enhance the learning and improve the efficiency of the class work. Already some parents have asked for plans to continue the classes after the summer vacation.

We read the messages at www.RomanizedSindhi.org and are thankful to Revered Dada J P Vaswani (Sadhu Vaswani Mission) for blessings and encouraging the use of Sindhi language and also to Dadi Sheela Sippy (of Sadhu Vaswani Mission Pune) for guiding the Romanized Sindhi Core Committee especially on the preparation of basic Mithree Si’ndh~ee B^olee lessons which, added with the supporting audios are playing great part in teaching. We are also pleased to see the message from Professor Jennifer S Cole, Department of Linguistics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and are grateful for her good words which have indeed encouraged Sindhi learners, especially in USA.

We are thankful to the Hindu Temple Fremont for providing the well equipped class room facilities and the SCNC for extending the full support and many dedicated volunteers who have helped to implement this Sindhi Class program.

And last but not the least we also thank the entire Romanized Sindhi Core Committee for their hard work in the cause of Sindhi Language and the Community.

My wife Manju joins me in sending our warm regards and respects.

Kamal Mirchandani
